Privacy notice for the test

This is the short notice for people trying out the Ralph Prize website. It covers the test only.

Updated October 13, 2026

What we collect

When you register, we collect your name, email address and phone number.

When you take part, we collect your story, your note about it, and your reviews.

While you review a story, we record how you read and answer. That is reading time, scrolling, which part of the story is on screen, pauses, when you leave and return to the page, copy, cut and paste, text size and panel use, and when you change an answer. We never record the words you type there.

When you register, confirm your phone, lock a story or submit a review, we record your IP address, your browser type and a short code made from your browser settings.

If you use Send feedback or Get help, we keep the page you were on, your browser and screen size, your reply email, and any screenshot you choose to attach.

How stories are checked

Each story is sent to an outside service that checks whether text was written by AI. Only staff see the result.

Only people decide how a story is rated and which stories win.

How we use your story

To enter a story, you agree that the Ralph Prize may use your story for internal purposes, including data analysis and improving its processes and AI tools. This agreement is required to enter, and you give it on the Permissions step.

The Prize may use AI, including outside AI services, to study stories and reviews and to improve the contest. That is never an input to any story’s result.

Who sees what

Reviewers see your story under a blind ID. They never see your name.

The note about your AI use is never shown to your readers. How you read is seen only by staff.

Staff who run the test can see names, emails, stories and reviews.

We use service providers for email, text messages, hosting, analytics, error monitoring and AI services. Each gets only what it needs for its job.

Test data and how long we keep it TEST · OQ-37

This is a test. Test data may be reset or deleted between test rounds.

We keep what you give us while the test runs. How long we keep it after the test is not decided yet (OQ-37), so we give no number of days.

Age

To enter a story you must be 14 or older. If you are 14 to 17, a parent or guardian must approve your entry and supervise your use of the site. You confirm this yourself when you set up your account.

Review only is for people 18 and over.

Who runs this, and who to ask

Stage 11 runs the accounts and the test site until the Ralph Prize Foundation exists.

To ask a question or make a request about your information, use Get help. It reaches the team that runs the test.
